Dungeons and Dragons noob question?
My friends and I want to get together after work, and play, but all we have are the free adventure books, and rules from Wizards.com... And the downloaded dice roller. Is there anything else we need?
Also, is it possible to use more than one character? (Use a Eladrin Paladin this time, and a Halfing Rouge the next? But have separate stats and levels)
They are fine places to start, but is may be easier dicewise to go down to your local gameing store and buy a few packs of noraml dice, that way the game can be played without the PC.
I'm guessing you have copies of your sheets and pencils but scratchpaper is always a boon. The DM needs it to keep track of monster hit points, Initiative results and such like, and the players need it for notes on informatio they feel they need to remember from one session to another.
You can have as many characters as you can imagine and get photocopied sheets for, but I would advise only having one to start with and run the different stories with the same characters. You get to see the progression and it's easier to carry the whole story with the same heros than to explain the constant jumping in and out. Although if you are taking turns at being DM then it is easy to run each different campains with different characters.
If you choses to continue playing then one purchase I would heartely recomend is the 'Player's Handbook' You should be able to run any game from that book alone, any outher books (such as the DM's Guide and Monster Manual) are good purchases also and will help more thel longer you take this. These other books are extreamly handy but are not strictly nessacary.
